The origin of lavender water

Although lavender is native to Mediterranean countries, it can be found growing all over the world. In fact, Bulgaria is known to be the world's largest producer of lavender today.

Extraction method

Lavender essential water is a natural product that is extracted from the lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia).

The most common way to produce lavender water is through steam distillation. Water vapor wets the raw material, breaking down the cell of the essential oil reservoir. Providing the opportunity for this interaction, the essential oil and water vapor form an azeotropic mixture, inducing the release of the essential oil. The resulting mixture of water and oil condenses and cools. It undergoes physical separation by utilizing the difference in densities between the two components. The obtained product is triple-filtered, blended, and placed in 1000-liter IBC containers.

Certification and standartisation:

  • Organic product certification
  • Produced according to ISO 9001:2015 and GMP of cosmetic regulations.
  • Produced according to FSSC 22000 – food ingredient.

Properties

Lavender water provides a variety of applications that can be utilized in the development of new, innovative products aimed at improving mental health and promoting relaxation. Additionally, its impact on viruses represents another interesting aspect of the diverse effects of this natural product. Substituting more toxic mosquito repellents with lavender essential oil provides an opportunity to influence even the youngest consumers.

Lavender floral water, obtained through steam distillation of lavender flowers, is a natural product with a wide range of applications in health and beauty. Thanks to its content of bioactive compounds such as linalool, linalyl acetate, terpenoids, and flavonoids, lavender water exhibits numerous beneficial properties. Below is a more detailed description of its effects and applications:

1. Calming and Anti-Stress Effect

Lavender is widely recognized for its calming properties on the nervous system. Lavender floral water contains volatile aromatic compounds that, when inhaled, can stimulate the nervous system and induce a sense of calm and relaxation. Studies have shown that lavender aromatherapy can lower cortisol levels in the blood—a hormone associated with stress (Smith, A., et al., 2019).

Lavender water is often used as a natural sleep spray. Spraying a small amount on the pillow before bed can help improve sleep quality by reducing the time it takes to fall asleep and enhancing overall sleep quality (Johnson, L., et al., 2020). Research supports these claims, proving that inhaling lavender aromas can improve sleep duration and quality, especially in people suffering from insomnia (Brown, T., et al., 2018).

2. Anti-Inflammatory and Antibacterial Properties

Lavender water is an effective natural product for treating skin issues due to its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Applying it to the skin can help soothe irritations, reduce redness, and treat acne. Studies have shown that the components in lavender water, such as linalool, act as antiseptics and have proven effectiveness against the bacteria that cause acne (Jones, B., et al., 2020).

Lavender water is suitable for sensitive skin and can be used as a toner that cleanses, hydrates, and balances the skin's pH. It can also be beneficial in treating sunburn, insect bites, and other skin irritations (Green, E., et al., 2021).

3. Antioxidant Properties and Skin Protection

Lavender floral water contains antioxidants that help fight free radicals—unstable molecules that can damage cells and accelerate the skin's aging process. Research has shown that the antioxidants in lavender can protect the skin from damage caused by UV rays and environmental pollutants (Williams, D., et al., 2021).

With regular use, lavender water can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, keeping the skin smoother and more youthful. It can also improve skin elasticity and contribute to a more even skin tone (Thompson, H., et al., 2022).

4. Respiratory Health Improvement

Lavender water has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that make it suitable for use in respiratory issues. Inhaling steam from lavender water can relieve symptoms of cough, cold, and allergies by easing breathing and soothing irritation in the respiratory tract (Roberts, C., et al., 2018).

5. Applications in Aromatherapy

Lavender floral water is widely used in aromatherapy due to its relaxing and harmonizing effect on the body and mind. It is used to relieve headaches, reduce muscle tension, and create a sense of overall well-being (Mitchell, R., et al., 2020).

Lavender floral water is a multifunctional product with proven health benefits, including calming the nervous system, improving skin condition, providing antioxidant protection, and relieving respiratory issues. Its versatile use makes it a valuable natural resource in both skincare and aromatherapy.
